Isn't there also the issue that the KHL team won't waive him to the CHL? I don't know what court's they would fight that out in, but is it as simple as ignoring that stuff?

Wouldn't it make it very difficult between the leagues going forward?

Does anyone know how this works - ignoring the demands of "I have the contract rights - how are they enforced?

Silly question but if he does sign for russia do we still own his NHL rights or does become a FA (and if so are we compensated?)

I love that the big duo in Rochester is the two euros so many were sure were going to be busts.

They looked good last night. Armia's skating looked slick.

I don't think so. Someone in upper management addressed it not too long ago but since then nothing really.

Only option for Buffalo is to keep him or send him to Jr's.

Since he refuses to be sent down as he has to sign off on the transfer agreement, he holds all the cards as Buffalo wants zero to do with him going to the motherland.

He has a binding contract with Buffalo.

He could take his ball and go home but if he wants to come back he has a contract that still needs to be fulfilled.

Agreed, makes it look easy (though i do wish he was a little faster).

In his 1st world junior tournament Ray Ferraro gave him all kinds of poop for having no compete on the puck and lazy in his own end. I have seen the exact opposite, gives me great hope even though it's only been 7 games.

i thought the NHL made an exception for him? Or have they made that rule permanent now?

They allowed him to play 9 games and the playoffs thus fulfilling the final year of his deal.

If he wished to return I believe he would be a UFA.

My read is that it is more complicated than that: that the agent was claiming that some KHL team that held his rights had to authorize Z's play in juniors, and while they authorized it for 2013-14 they would not authorize his play in juniors for 2014-15.

So yes, Buffalo has only two choices, but if they don't keep him with the big club, and try to send him to Juniors, the KHL contract trumps the transfer order.

EDIT: This story may have fallen away later in the week:

Earlier this week, a report broke in Buffalo that Zadorov could not be returned to his junior team in London due to the absence of a transfer agreement between Zadorov and his Russian club team CSKA Moskva. In other words, the story suggested that Zadorov could not play in the OHL, nor the AHL this season. His only options were to play in Buffalo or in Moscow. On Tuesday, Sabres AGM Mark Jakubowski told Kevin Oklobzija of the Rochester D and C that Zadorov could indeed be sent back to OHL London to begin his third season of major junior hockey in the event that he doesn't stick and stay with the Sabres.

I read it as he holds all the cards.

Either way the transfer agreement is rubbish and should be torn up. He has an NHL contract that pays him like 90k a year for signing. They should be able to do with him how they see fit and that's play him in the AHL.

Play a handful of games before becoming a healthy scratch, burn 2 years off of his ELC and have his career horribly mismanaged?
